Hey, Guess What? It’s December.

Here we are, the final month of the year. Just because the ground is frozen solid doesn’t mean there isn’t some fresh, local produce to be had. In fact, some of the hardiest greens and most subtle alliums are flooding the produce aisles right now! Here is a look at what is in-season in the Mid-Atlantic region:

  • Apples
  • Beets
  • Broccoli Rabe
  • Brussel Sprouts
  • Cabbage
  • Carrots
  • Cauliflower
  • Celery Root
  • Chard
  • Chicories
  • Cilantro
  • Fennel
  • Greens
  • Kale
  • Kohlrabi
  • Leeks
  • Lettuce
  • Mint
  • Mushrooms
  • Onions
  • Oregano
  • Parsley
  • Parsnips
  • Radicchio
  • Sage
  • Sorrel
  • Spinach
  • Sweet Potatoes
  • Turnips
  • Winter Squash

Here are a few ideas of what to do with that bounty, from my personal recipe stash:

Chickpea, Potato and Spinach Jalfrezi
Couscous with Roasted Fennel
Roasted Cauliflower with Olives, Currants, and Tahini Dressing
